In 2002 I borrowed a camera from a friends dad. I was using it to help me get into a Academy Snowboard Camp at Wild Mountain, MN, for free. I figured if I could offer Matt Peterson something useful he may just let me hang out. The camera made the most sense and I didn't even know how to use the thing. It was Canon Rebel, I believe the first of its type. What I didn't know and didn't expect what was about to happen at that camp... I went to go learn more about snowboarding, and I left knowing a lot more about photography.
I didn't put that camera down the entire time I was at camp. It stuck to me. The last day of the camp I was sitting on the side of the park talking with Matt telling him how excited I was about the photos I was getting. I think I told him I had a hundred great shots and that he should use them for Academy Snowboards. He put a grown up perspective into my life and told me that if I even had two "good" shots I was a good photographer. I didn't fully understand what he had just told me until many years later...
It was my pursuit to become a professional snowboarder when I went to that camp, instead I came out as a photographer.
Since 2001 I have endlessly documented Action Sports. For thirteen plus years it was my bread and butter. Today it has grown out to be a bit more. I photograph product, shorebreak, surf, skate, snow, weddings, portraits, places, things... I photograph life as it happens.
My work experience includes:
Bald-e-Gal Productions: They produce snowboard films each season based on Minnesota Snowboarding. My work with them has included seasons of photographing the team riders and producing content for DVD covers as well as posters, blog posters, web content, and even publishings.

Corduroy Lifestyles: Pete Harvioux's publishing's are the hype of the midwest, Corduroy Lifestyle Magazine features the Midwest's up and coming. Whether you are a Skater, Snowboarder, Photographer, or even Videographer, getting a mention in this small publishing felt good and usually led to more opportunity. Pete was a big supporter of mine and he featured a lot of my work.
I'll never forget handing one of these issues to Trevor Graves showing him my featured photography. He grabbed a pen out of his pocket and asked me to sign a shot he picked out to be his favorite. That was a huge moment for me as he has been a major inspiration not only in my own work, but also in the work of most modern action sport photographers.
Transworld Snowboarding, Japan: Major publishing in Transworld Snowboarding Magazine, Japan in 2013.
Snowboarder Magazine: Zac Marben, Snowboarder Magazine in 2012.
Snowboard Colorado: I have had a few images ran with a newer publication, Snowboard Colorado. I'm hyped on this Mag and all that they do.
I acted as Scott Serfas' assistant for the 2011 Transworld Team Shoot Out at Big Bear, CA.
Scott's images combined with the very talented Rome Snowboard Team and of course the help of Big Bear Park Crew took first place that year. Scott Serfas landed another cover of rider LNP, I assisted with the flash setup. I'm standing next to Scott, second in on the left.
Soul Surfing School: At one point I had to learn to surf. I did this through Soul Surfing School in Laguna Beach, CA. Along the way I was a surf instructor, I also brought photography to the table. I used imagery to help produce Blog Content, Newspaper articles, among other Social Networking outlets for Soul Surfing School.
The Interior Plain Project: My imagery has been used for content for year one of The Interior Plain Project.
